Membership

Here at Faith Community Church, we take church membership seriously. In fact, one of our Core Values is "Covenant Membership." The Bible is clear that every person who is a Christian should identify themselves with a local church. In fact, the whole New Testament was written with church membership as the backdrop. It is impossible for a Christian to fulfill the commands of the New Testament apart from joining together with, or belonging to a local church.

The responsibility of individual Christians to join a local church has been lost in today's world, including the church culture. You hear things like "you don't have to go to church to be a Christian." While it is true that to become a Christian, you do not have to go to church. There is nothing you can do to gain salvation, including church attendance. We believe in justification by faith alone. BUT. After a person becomes a Christian, it is incumbent upon them to join a local church. It is actually a part of salvation. When a person becomes a Christian, they are born again into the family of God, the church. However, in spite of this biblical reality, Christians neglect the seriousness of church membership. Christians are loosely affiliated with one specific church or they church hop to several churches. At best, they are a member of one local church but they have no idea what it means to be a member there or what their responsibilities to the church, its members, or leaders are.

Again, we take church membership seriously here at Faith Community Church. We want each member to know what it means to be a church member, what their role and responsibility entails, and what they should expect from other members and the leaders of the church.

One way that we aim at making sure this happens is by doing a church membership class. This class walks carefully through a seven chapter book that the elders have written which details all of these aspects of church membership. The chapters are as follows:
1. What is a Church?
2. Who Can Be A Member of the Church?
3. Who Leads the Church?
4. What Does the Church Do?
5. Is Church Membership Necessary?
6. DNA of Faith Community Church
7. How Do I Join?
