Core Values

Below you will find a list of the seven core values of our church and a brief explanation of each of them. This list is certainly not exhaustive but gives some distinctives to our church. We believe each of these core values come directly from the Scriptures. These seven core values come directly from our theological convictions on church practice as laid out in the Scripture. As you become familiar with the doctrines and practice at Faith Community Church, these seven core values will be clearly seen in the life of our church.
1 Timothy 4:13 "Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching."

We believe the primary method of preaching should be sequential exposition. Sequential expositional preaching is the practice of preaching through books of the Bible, book by book, verse by verse with the goal of discovering the God-intended meaning of the passage. We do this by the study of historical and contextual evidence to the original audience and then bringing forth the meaning to our modern day. We also do this because we believe the Bible is three things; 1.) Inspired by God. 2.) Inerrant, meaning it has no errors in it. 3.) Sufficient for EVERYTHING in this life and the life to come. This does not mean we never preach stand alone sermons, or even topical sermons although even these sermons will be expositional in nature. The main diet of God's Word at FCC will be expositional preaching.
Eph. 5:18-21 "but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ."

We believe it matters what happens when we sing together as the family of God. Congregational singing is the act of prioritizing the truth in the songs we sing and the voices of those singing them. The aim is to exalt God and edify one another in singing glorious truths. We also deny the temptation to make musical worship about performance and emotionalism. Congregational singing promotes theology in songs as primary rather than emotions of responses.
1 Cor. 15:1-4 "Now I would remind you, brothers,[a] of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, hat he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures"

We believe the gospel is the most important thing we have, therefore, we make it central to all we do. It is central in our worship services, our community groups, marriage, parenting, work, and all things! We believe the gospel is central to the Scriptures, therefore it should be central in the local church.
1 Peter 2:9-10 "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

1 Cor. 12:14 " For the body does not consist of one member but of many"

We believe church membership is a biblical principle of formally belonging to one-another. The whole story of the Bible is about God redeeming a people for himself. When redeemed individuals come together it is called the local church. Covenant Membership is the formal process of joining together with the other believers at FCC to accomplish the goal of gathering and going for the glory of God. We have a Membership Class that all of our members are required to go through to help inform them of our doctrine and practice. Covenant Membership involves the prospective member, the current members, and the elders to realize their biblical obligations to one another and to the Lord.
1 Peter 5:1-2 "So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: shepherd the flock of God that is among you"

2 Timothy 4:1-2 "I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching."

We believe the Bible is clear on the local church being led by a plurality of called, aspired, able to teach, men of character. These men are equal in authority and share the shepherding ministry of the local church as under-shepherds to the good shepherd which is Christ. For more info, see our Leadership page.
Deuteronomy. 6:6-7"And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise."

We believe the family is the primary means and place of ministry as God intended. Christian families should be built upon a biblical marriage that displays the gospel of Jesus Christ. The family should be where love is displayed, the Bible is taught and lived out, and children are taught what to believe and how to live.
Matthew 21:13 "He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.”

Psalm 127:1-2 "Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep."

We believe that apart from God's help we can do nothing. We urgently need God to move and we are utterly dependent on Him to do so. You will hear specific and intentional prayers in our worship services. You will see us share one another's burdens as we pray for one another in community groups. You will see us pray for one another throughout the week as we spend time alone in prayer. We must be a church that is dependent upon God in prayer.
  • Psalm 46:8-10 "Come, behold the works of the Lord,
    Who has wrought desolations in the earth.
    He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth;
    He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
    He burns the chariots with fire.
    “Cease striving and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

    We believe it is the heart of God for all people groups in the world to know and enjoy Him. Jesus promised his disciples they would receive power from the Holy Spirit to be witnesses to the ends of the earth. We are committed to reach our neighbors and the nations by giving, going, and praying. Not only are we to reach the nations but to make disciples of all nations. Our hope is to raise up daily missionaries to go fulfill the Great Commission and have a missionally-engaged culture in our church of what God is doing in our backyard and in the world.
